The act of having two--at one brief point even three--carriers in the Persian Gulf was not an indication of readiness to attack Iran, just as temporal reduction of naval forces in the Gulf is not an indication of a decision not to attack Iran.
In my reading, nothing militarily is expected to happen in the Iranian front until late 2008, possibly even after the American election. Nobody sees a need to act now, and all view military action as truly last resort.
Also, permanent deployment of even one carrier in the Gulf is a real burden on the Navy...
This article is hysterical, too alarming (on both sides), and very very provincial...
